royal mail- redelivery...no idea where packet is

This saga seems to be continuing...really hoping someone gets in contact with me after xmas...but am now thinking I wont see my parcel
oh ordered me a pressie, was sent recorded delivery, 16th December delivery note-go online or pick it up.
Went online to arrange redelivery for the Saturday, 72 hours later- waited all day, nothing came
Sent oh to sorting office on the monday, " No clue where it is mate sorry" ..after waiting in the snow for 1 hour 20 minutes.
Have had 3 calls with headoffice, they now admit that it never got back to the sorting office so they have no clue where it is. After telling me it WAS scanned back into the sorting office and was there 100%. They suspect its gone back to sender OR... they really have lost it.. but they are keeping an eye for it and will phone me. He explained to me the posties drop it off at any post office if they cant deliver and it can get mixed up with the wrong post etc.
Have contacted the seller but obv..xmas time etc..really hoping its gone back to them - will they be able to verify with Royal mail it was never signed for??? Hoping they can send it again standard mail if this is the case
...never had any trouble with them before so really dissapointed, always thought the posties do a fantastic job... wherever my uni present is...I would like it sometime in January :rotfl:
Is there anything else I can do?? or are they telling me a load of old cobblers lol
