sorry for such a dumb question first year ive ever had to cook my christmas dinner
i have nearly a whole gammon joint and around 3 kilos of turkey from a turkey crown (under half price from asda so brought without thinking)
for me and my little ones there has got to be at least 10 meals of cooked meat and possibly stock from whats left meat wise on the small amount of bones
can i freeze cooked turkey and ham ? otherwise its destined for the biin
?
what can i then use it for that doesnt involve curry sauce/heavy based sauces
useally a chicken does us a roast, pasta bake, rice type dish and then a soup for a few days, just dont want to get in a rut of thinking not turkey again

Of course you can freeze it as long as it hasn't been cooked then frozen before. Bag into usable portions first.
Use turkey in roasts, sandwiches, pasta in sauce etc. I find if I freeze it in smaller portions then add to a beef/pork/lamb dinner it works well....same with sneaking it in chicken dishes.
Gammon, we use it mainly for sandwiches/saladsOne day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
awww.... bless you, sounds like u cooked up a storm!!!!
All the meat will freeze up lovely, maybe freeze in portions and use as you need.
Turkey and ham pie springs to mind, but anything you might have chicken would be good for the turkey, and as it's frozen you wouldn't need to use it every night so fingers crossed you wouldn't get sick of it too quickly.
Good luck, enjoy what's left on xmas x x0 -
Thank you, feel so stupid for asking such a dumb question, asked my Dad and he said no to freezing even though turkey was brought fresh xmas eve but then again i find him very very wastefull
have friends over tomorrow so will keep a large chunk aside for that and freeze the rest in small freezer bags to use throughout January, my 3 boys go to stay with there dad from 27th hence not really getting much of a chance to use during the next comeing weekDebt free

its absolutely fine to freeze cooked meats hun. portion it out - sliced is fine for sarnies. big chunks to use for curries casseroles or you can just thaw it to eat as is. I do this on boxing day with whatever meat i have left and in nearly thirty years havent had a problem (or tummy upset) from using the meat. I also do it with meat during the week if i have leftovers. after a few weeks I usually have enough for one or two meals. so its very moneysaving!0

Yes, I've just done the exact same thing
Yesterday I cooked a small turkey, ham and a small piece of beef in the oven at the same time :rotfl:(feel very moneysaving..)
I've bagged up portions of the ham/turkey to use in the kids sandwiches, tried to slice it quite thin using the electric knife. :j
I've sliced the beef up into portions so that'll do another couple of sunday lunches:T

Hi I have the same problem so one of the things I am going to do is mince both the turkey and ham and freeze it. The next time I go to make a meat loaf I will use the cooked meat, but will add more moisture to the mix (possibly a little stock to get right consistency since the meat will be slightly drier~) just remember that you wont be able to freeze the loaf again. Along with that I will make portions to freeze for using in pies, quiches, etc.
