You have to sync the controllers with the xbox. There's a button on the Xbox under the disc drive and the middle button on the controllers both need to be pressed so the Xbox can 'find' the controllers.

yep - when the xbox (cough spit - sorry dont like em:p) is searching for a controller - the lights on the xbox and the controller should begin to rotate to indicate that they are searching for each other - when they are found - one of the four lights will stay on the controller - and the Xbox will then display how many controllers it recognises by the number of lights it has on.

also the light on the xbox/controller should correlate once linked
so if the top left quadrent is lit on the xbox ring then the same should be on the controller

yes it does show how to do it clearly unlike some booklets for electronic equipment.

they may have modified the instruction booklet since i got mine but if its like mine you need to look for the section called set up wireless controller. it is on page 8 in my booklet. failing that go to the section called add wireless controller. that is on page 23 in my booklet. i say in my booklet because they may be on different pages in yours but the section title should be the same.
