Halifax Web saver

Has anyone had problems opening this? I get all the way through the application, accept the terms and conditions and then it says it can't procede at this time. Is this a temporary glitch, or is there an ongoing problem?

Anyone? Still getting the same problem.
  • Hi Jenniferpa - I haven't tried opening the web saver but when I opened the regular saver which needs another Halifax bank account opened first to feed the money into at the end of the 12 month term I was told I couldn't open the web saver as this could only e opened if already have a bank account with them! Could that be the problem or do you already have a Halifax bank account? Keep meaning to set up web saver so will go and have a look now x

Well it might be. It depends on if by bank account, they mean a current account. We were told that the web saver needed a feeder account, and that the Saver Reward account already held could function as that feeder account, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. It's a good idea, and at least gives me a specific question to ask. I'd be interested to know if you have any success with setting up the account.

    Thanks

Oh four letter words! I've found out what the problem is (I think) I am out of the country at the moment so the stupid system won't let me open the account! I can do everything else, but not open accounts. So much for the world wide web.

I know why they're doing it, but I just wish they'd told me up front. Anyway, I'm not sure they are protecting me - having done further research it seems more than possible to "fake" the geolocation aspects of IP addresses, and if I can find out how to do, I'm certain a person with nefarious intent could. Furthermore, how many bad guys are there out there who would be kind enough to set up a high interest account for me? Clear me out, yes, but save for me?:rotfl: It would make more sense to disable transfers if the issue was effective security (rather than apparent security).

There's a caution at the foot of the Logon page - which, in turn, takes you to a warning that you can't set up accounts from outside the UK. Can't copy it as it's protected text.

But it's one of those things your eyes see every time you Logon - but your brain fails to recognise? Familiarity .. and all that !!

Ah the important message thing! You're right - way too obvious. Actually, by upfront, I meant when we spent 45 mins in the office working all my Mother's investments out where it was explicitly spelled out that with my Mother's power of attorney I would be managing these accounts from my home (which is in the US). If they'd said "you do realise you'll have to set it up before you leave" I would have done. Oh well - I'll be back again next month.
