Looking for cheapest solution to share printer over network. I guess I need a print server, but is there a cheaper solution? I've seen a couple of switches which include USB, would these work? Can anyone recommend me one? Switches are cheap... but print servers don't seem to be.

I take it you want to use the printer regardless of which printer is turned on ??Ex forum ambassador

If you mean, regardless of which computer is turned on, then yes.

The free way if you already have a network inplace is to share the printer from 1 of the pc's but then the pc doing the sharing needs to be on for it to work.0

I got one of these for my parents Samsung laser printer which seems to work fine:

Cheapest print server I could find at the time. They have a parallel port version for a couple of quid less:

Thanks for the replies guys, forgot to look at the thread again today!
Little John - that's what I'm doing at the moment but it's a pain if the computer with the printer is turned off hence the need for a solution.
Anyhoo, funny you should mention those Edimax ones gavinp because I just won an Edimax one on eBay hehe (an older model but hopefully it should be okay (had good reviews and was cheap anyway!)).
Thanks again.
