Try putting your turkey (still in wrapper) in cold water (in a bucket or washing up bowl etc). Change the water every half an hour.0

What's the size of the turkey? It might take 48 hours if defrosting in the fridge
Placing it on a metal tray on the kitchen worktop will help the turkey defrost faster.0 -
must be one huge turkey:eek::eek:
I think your only option is to defrost in the sink full of cold water, changed frequently, till it is defrosted
good luck:D:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
if you place on worktop make sure its away from animals cats and dogs will eat anything

You'll have a hell of a job defrosting that for a lunch however you do it unless you're going to sit up all night changing the water. If you go that way don't be tempted to use warm water as that would risk incubating nasties.
Potentially a bath might be the way to go, running cold water over it continuously, but may be better to cut your losses and try and find a Plan B if you can. If you can delay 24 hours then you'll be fine, you might find that if you ring any guests they may be able to bring something along for a scratch meal. It may even be more fun like that.
Everyone has disasters from time to time, my best early one was reading the weight of a turkey in pounds and using the per kg cooking time so it came out as dry as a bone. You do end up looking back and laughing, though you don't believe that at the time. So if you can't defrost the turkey, don't let it spoil the day.0 -
hi, thankyou for your replies. its a 5.8kg one, says defrost for 45 hours in a cool room, well its currently in a warm room so hope it will be quicker, although i hope it wont make it go off, oh dear it just wouldnt be christmas without something going wrong would it! lol i can see myself defrosting my pork in the microwave in the morning!! the turkey needs to be done by 1pm, but im sure i could leave it till 5 and do a buffet thing for everyone while they wait :-S.....i would try the bucket of water but i dont fancy staying up all night :-(....hehehe im laughing to myself at the thought of bathing the kids in the morning along with the turkey!10

It will definitely not be ready to cook for 1pm if it was only out at 7 and you didn't do the water thing.........I think that you really need to do the cold water thing. Make sure that there are no ice crystals inside at all before you start cooking pls xxThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0
