Car insurance question, is this true?

Hello,

My husband is the main policy holder and had me put on when I got my provisional. It has been expired now for just over 6 months and asked our insurance co to remove me since I don't drive.

I was told that it would be cheaper to keep me on as it's cheaper to insure as a married couple than alone. Now, our insurance went up when I was put on so I don't get how it would not go down.

I just took they guys word for it and never questioned it. We pay about £50 per month for a 2003 Citroen Picasso. I'm sure it was about £40 before I was added and we have a clean record with no claims.

Has anybody ever heard of this? We go through Swinton who shop for the best rates.

Thanks in advanced.

Also, thank you to people who help me out.
  • some times it can be cheaper even on a provisional, but when you pass you test if could change in price (because your more likely to drive alone) I have seen it happen.
I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.
  • I don't drive at all and my provisional expired. I didn't go for my test.

I doubt it would be cheaper with a learner, but you can check that easily. Just do online quotes = one with and another without you as named driver.

You don't give hubby's details, but (unless he is 18 with 11 points and a conviction for drunk driving?) £50 per month seems a lot for a 6 year old Picasso.

  • missile, husband is 42 with a clean record and no claims. I just had a check on one of the comparison sites and I get quotes for half the price. So we 're going to switch as soon as we can.

    Many thanks!!!

I am very pleased to help.:A
I would suggest you ought to be paying much less than you have been. Not all of the companies are available through price comparison sites, e.g. I would try direct line. :j
