A low lying placenta is not uncommon at 20 weeks - just requires another scan to check its position. Obviously yours hasn't moved as much as was hoped so they need to check again.
BTW it doesn't actually move but as the lower segment of the uterus is formed it moves the placenta with it.
Fingers crossed for the next scan and like you said, worse case, a section will be the safest option for delivering your baby.
HTH and that all goes ok0 -
Oh and a section usually requires 2-3 days in hospital too0

And don't worry about a C-Section; I had an emergency C Section with DS1 and it was not at all traumatic; I hate hospitals, needles, etc., but they talked me through every minute of the procedure and I didn't feel a thing ... although it was somewhat surreal as it was a Friday night and evidently all the Docs were going out for a drink afterwards0

Langold try not to worry to much i had placenta previa with my second baby it stayed low pretty much all the way through then suddenly moved out the way towards the end. I to was petrified of having to have a c section but at the end of the day i came to terms with it as the baby was the priority. Plenty of ladies have had c sections on the parenting & the pregancy thread i would hop on one of them if you need any reassurance about the op. Fingers crossed it moves and all goes well. :-) x:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Think of the uterus like a balloon .....the neck is the cervix. If you paint a spot on the balloon near the neck, as you blow the balloon up, so the spot moves up - as will the placenta as the pregnancy progresses. So it could well be right away from the mouth of the cervix by the time it comes to deliver - scans will show where it is - and the most important thing is that your baby is delivered safely, with the least amount of trauma, to you and your baby.
Wishing you well.0 -
Hi
hope you dont mind me posting but I thought i could maybe put your mind at rest.
in 2004 after a couple of miscarriages, i found myself pregnant again after having 2 children without problems.
i had placenta previa grade 4 which is where the placenta is completely over the cervix, so not a chance of any kind of birth where I could do it naturally as i had previously.
i was very upset, but eventually at around 31 weeks, i agreed to be admitted to hospital. i was there on 'watch!' for 5 weeks but nothing bad happened, i had my baby by c section and had a general. the nurses were great, gave me an electric bed, side room etc cos i had been there so long and earned the right! there was another lady though opposite me on the ward who had been there since 25 weeks and she was no so lucky but the end result for both of us was healthy baby boys.
so i would say to you if you have to go in then go in, they want to look after you and help you and your baby, i fought going into hospital but there was no need to feel scared - it was fine. nothing bad happened to me, no bleed, nothing. if your placenta moves then great but if not its not the end of the world. a csection is not too bad either, least its done quickly!
they also want you to get to at least 36 weeks before they will deliver.. they delivered me at 36 weeks and 4 days.
i wish you the best of luck and please do not be scared.. it is the best place... if that is what is recommended to you.

hun, the problem has been identified and the hospital will be keeping a VERY close eye on you. this is a good thing! you may need more checks than other motherstobe, but, it sounds like they are taking good care of you. be positive, you are only 20 weeks and the situation may improve in time. try to be relaxed hun, the baby needs that - not an uptight worried mum. good luck anyway, and DONT listen to scare stories! every pregnancy and birth is different you know.0
