Economy 7 plus

Options
I have 2 meters , one for night storage heaters and one for normal electricity requirements. I do not have any gas.
Does anyone know of cheap providers that cater for this situation because every time I try using a site like this or simplyswitch I get turned down because of the 2 meters.

You'll have extreme difficulty in switching suppliers with the existing meters.

The E.On rep recently posted stating that they take on E10 customers nationwide, so there's a possibility you may wish to enquire about.

Alternatively, you could enquire about switching meters to E7 dual rate, but that may not be appropriate for your circumstances.

What do you mean by Economy 7 plus?

With Economy 7 you can change to any company.

However, particularly in Scotland, there are lots of 'weird' tariffs with variations on cheap rate tariffs.
  • Economy 7 plus means I have a meter for Economy7, the night storage heaters but I have a separate meter for the normal electricity 13 amps sockets and lighting.
I am trying to see if 1 supplier can deal with both meters. OVO doesn't. Does anybody knows of other internet suppliers ? Please let me know.

They all do a 'normal' Economy 7 tariff, including OVO. A 'normal' Economy 7 tariff has 7 hours cheap rate(during the night) and 17 hours day rate.

I have never heard of Economy 7 plus! It sounds like one of those tariffs(like Economy 10) that gives you an afternoon boost at cheap electricity rates.

Go to any comparison network like energyhelpline - see at the top of page - and enter in your details and it will show the cheapest.
  • Sorry Cardew if I have not explained myself but Economy 7 plus was just my way of saying economy7 for night storage and "plus"was for the normal electricity.
OVO will not deal with 2 meters and N power will only deal with 2 meters on their standard tariff. Neither will deal with it on the internet. So back to my original question anybody know of an internet tariff for 2 meters, and as OVO said to me I need 2 to cover night storage and ordinary lighting and 13 amp sockets

I'm sorry. As the title of this thread is "Economy 7 plus", I thought you were referring to the protected tariff in the Manweb Area (Region 13) supplied by Scottish Power.

If that is the case, my previous post stands.

If that is not the case, my previous post may not be correct.

Whatever the case, you don't appear to have a standard supply set up and so will have difficulty trying to use online comparison sites or probably applying online direct to suppliers.
I would suggest you call them and discuss your requirements directly. If you find a supplier who will be willing to take over the supply, they may allow you to operate that account online if you prefer.

    2 meters?
See Premier post below to clarify if you have 2 MPANS.
If only one MPAN, but 2 meters, they are often labelled as "Normal" and "Low".
It sounds like you have the "Low" meter recording a separate circuit for night storage heaters. This is not unusual.

    2 meters means 2 MPANs
    ...
The problem is that the administration systems of many of the relatively new entrants to the UK Gas and Electricity market are not configured to accept more than one MPAN when setting up an account.
    ...
The key to the transaction is to make sure that whatever price comparison service you are using to manage the actual transfer or if you are doing this yourself, the supplier, is fully aware of your own circumstances at the outset.

Which i would suggest is not usually possible online.

Furthermore, if the MTCs of the MPANs is not in the region 800-999 or 500-509 (those common amongst the indutry), then the supplier probably won't be able to identify the type of meter the customer has and so just reject an application (unless details have already been clarified)

  • Thanks Premier ( Jackie) and paceinternet it looks like I am snookered for getting an online tariff. I did use a Price Comparison service ( SimplySwitch ) to arrive at OVO as being a service that would save me money. However when they found I had 2 meters, MPANs, you seem to call them they said they couldn't accommodate me.
What does amaze me is there must be hundreds of thousands of Economy 7 customers in the country and paceinternet has it right. (High and Low), (Day and Night) How do they price their electricity surely not all at the high rate so can you obtain 1 meter that does both circuits ? If so how do you do obtain ?

    Most E7 customers have a single 2-rate meter :)

If you are on the Scottish Power Economy 7 plus tariff, you are on a 3 rate tariff.
