Hi all,
I'm moving house, hurrah! My new exchange is non LLU, boo! BT have told me I'll have to pay £125 to re-connect the line, boo.
I've played around on the internet and the cheapest deal I can find (based on price over 12 months - despite the fact some are 18 month contracts!) is actually with BT (surprise!).
If I take out broadband with BT. Broadband Option 1 (7.78 for 3 months, then 15.65 for the rest of the contract [18 months in total].) with 11.25 per month line rental.
If I take out a broadband package, and make 10 chargeable calls per month, I will get the re-connection free.
Without the chargeable calls, I make the total cost for 12 months (ignoring the remaining 6 for comparison reasons between providers) to be £299.19.
Add on about a tenner for chargeable calls 309.19.
Talk talk works out 452.87 (taking into account 59.99 connection and non LLU broadband at £21.49 a month...plus line rental)
Virgin works out £351, based on 11 per month line rental, 14 per month non LLU internet (2 months free) a £44 phone line connection fee and £35 broadband activation....
Can anyone beat BTs offering? I've never known BT win yet!!!

I'm connected to a non-LLU exchange and I've applied for BT broadband too (although the experience is not too good so far - see separate thread.) Don't forget you can get £50-£65 off using Quidco and another £40 credit if you apply for and use a BT Visa card.It must be true, I read it on Wikipedia0

The issue of the 10 calls has been discussed (and argued) ad nauseam on here. Chargeable calls does not necessarily mean calls for which you have to pay.
It can mean calls which are inclusive in your calls plan. Hence, if you take the cheapest option, the Unlimited Weekend Plan, calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers at weekends will do despite the fact that you will not pay for them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

On non-LLU exchanges BT Broadband tends to be a safer bet. If for example you chose TalkTalk they will tend to blame BT for problems, and BT will blame TalkTalk and you wil get nowhere.0
