Tickets Robbie Williams

Hi

My son bid on and won 2 pairs of Robbie Inner Circle tickets for Milton Keynes. He has asked one seller for proof of purchase but he says that he has paypal protection and that should be enough. The other seller sent proof but the booking reference did not match his email address when he checked. However he has a large amount of good feedback. Would you go ahead and pay or stick out for proof of purchase for the 1st pair? He has paid for the second already.

Thanks

Lots of people have more than one email address so I wouldn't worry about that specific issue. Buying tickets on ebay is always a bit stressful, and I assume from what you say, the seller doesn't have the tickets in hand which is an ebay listing violation. Personally, I wouldn't pay until I saw some evidence from the first seller that he had ordered the tickets (well, personally, I wouldn't pay for Robbie Williams tickets in the first place:) )

May have booked via phone, or possibly does not want you to see how little they actually paid for them!

I would insist though, paypal protection only lasts for 30 or 45 days, or make sure you use a credit card to pay.

How would Paypal protection be of any use when your son is buying items that aren't allowed to be sold on eBay??????

If it goes wrong...Paypal will weedle out of even getting involved since the tickets are against eBay rules. Also....the concert is mid September so any Paypal protection will expire long before then.........does the buyer have the tickets in hand???

Your son will have to decide if he trusts the seller....from what you say his good feedback should be your deciding factor.

It is quite normal to sell tickets without actually having them, because the official tickets outlets release them for sale up to six months beforehand but only send the actual tickets out 10 days before the actual event date.

You do obviously get the confirmation email, which you could forward but having said that, you could always doctor one for another concert and change the details, if you were so inclined.

It's a case of check the feedback, check the recent comments on feedback, check if they've been selling concert tickets before.

So far as I understand it, it is against ebay rules to sell something that you will not have in hand within 30 days - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.html .
Plus, paypal protection is from 45 days from payment, so if it takes any longer than that for the tickets to arrive you'll have no protection.

Normal - yes, but as sockospice's link shows, against ebay rules. If everything works out, and the buyer and seller are both happy everything is fine. However, if you choose to deal against ebay rules, then any problems are your own to sort out. It would depnd on how much money I was talking about - for £20 I might take the risk, for £120 I probably wouldn't. Hopefully, the OP is now aware of the potential pitfalls, but I'm certain that there are a lot of people buying tickets on ebay that have no idea that they have few protections.
  • Your son had no right bidding on something and then, having won it, making payment conditional upon stipulations he made after bidding closed. Unless the seller specifically offered to provide proof of purchase in the item listing, why should he/she do so now? If proof of purchase was important to your son then he should have e-mailed the seller prior to bidding to check that this was something the seller was happy to provide.

Proof of purchase is a complete waste of time because it does not guarantee that just because the seller has genuinely bought the tickets he/she has any intention of actually sending them to the buyer. What's to stop someone selling the same tickets over and over again and providing the same proof of purchase e-mail to all the buyers?

Like any other purchase on e-bay, you should be guided by the seller's feedback. If you don't like the feedback then don't bid and certainly don't bid and THEN ask questions.

If your son does not pay for these tickets then he will most likely get a NPB negative - and quite right too.

While I agree with you, patriciaellen, in principle, the seller has "no right" to list this sort of thing on ebay in the first place. Ebay rules cut both ways. In fact, since the seller is selling against ebay regs, I think it's very unlikely he could get a NPB against anyone.
