HP laserjet 1005 printer again

I did some experimenting after getting another monitor to allow me to see what was on my old XP computer.
I networked the Windows 7 and XP computer together.
I set the HP printer on the XP computer to share
I ran the add printer wizard in Windows 7 and it found the HP printer on the XP computer and installed the drivers and will print to it over the network.
Why will the Windows 7 computer not find and install the drivers and print to the printer when the printer is directly connected to the Windows 7 computer and yet do it over a network to a computer running XP and connected to the printer?
Totally baffled

Now you've got it installed on the Win7 box, plug it into the desktop and it should work.0
