I had economy 7 up until about 6 years ago when I had GCH installed. At the time I phoned my supplier British Gas and told them..they said I didn't need my meter changing they would just charge my the standard flat rate on both day and night readings.

A few years ago I switched to Scottish Power...they did the same. Then in September this year I switched to EDF energy. Today I got my first bill and I have been charged day and night rates:mad:...my bill is much higher than it ever has been!!!

I phoned and they said there is nothing they can do...I have to be charged Economy7 rates despite not having used it for years!!!! Can anyone help...do I have any comeback on this? Why is it that BG and SP both were able to charge me a flat rate and EDF can't:confused:

The irony is e-on came and changed my meter yesterday because my old one was at the end of its life span...the guy even said, I presume you are just billed on a flat rate...so I'll put you a single rate meter in:rolleyes:

Apologies for the long post...but can anyone advise me if EDF are correct that I can't be charged a flat rate?

Many thanks...and Merry Christmas :)

Some suppliers will allow a customer to be charged on a single rate tariff whilst having a dual rate meter, and others won't.

When you applied to EDF, they should have sent you a welcome letter confirming they will be taking over your supply and that usually has details of the tariff they will be charging you on. It would be at that time to have complained if you were not happy and they would probably have arranged to change the meter if that is what you wanted.

By misleading the engineer as to what type of meter you require for your current tariff, you may have created even more problems with your supplier. I would contact them asap and explain what you have done.
