Which bank for my daughter?

Hi! My daughter (20) is looking for a bank account, she currently has a building society account and has just moved back home and is job seeking. We hope it wont take too long for her to find a job as she has excellent references, 6 months experience in her chosen field and would be prepared to do agency work. Her credit score is awful (long story but debts now cleared)

She wants a basic bank account with a debit card and is considering going to University in the next year or two.

Any suggestions as to which bank might offer her a suitable account??

Cheers!

Without sounding facetious isn't she old enough to sort the thing out herself.

    I mean she is 20.

I think you might get some better answers if you post on the Budgeting & Banks board rather than the pensions board.

However it does sound a little that way:confused:. We all want to do the best for our children and sometimes, at a certain age, we have a little more time and inclination to spend on the topic, don't forget the parent probably has twice as much lifetime experience as the later generation. If more parents were so considerate the younger generation would be a whole lot better fixed than they are at present.

We stepped in when our 17 year old was "given" a £2000 overdraft facility:eek: on her bank account, sodding banks, deserve all they have got, minus the bonuses.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Theres a line between asking for help, and having things done for you.

I have never asked my mother for financial advice, you gotta be kidding me, she is the worst. Thats why I came here. ;)

Yep, you're right, there's always a middle ground, not often suggested here tho' ;);)

  • Not all we Mums are that bad! Both my children still come to me frequently for financial advice. I have the time to do the research and read MSE!

17 may be a bit young, but they should know by that age that if they spend it, they have pay it back. If they don't then there is something wrong.

My sons often ask me for advice too and they're 25 and 23. I'm glad that they feel able to ask me and will help where I can.

More time than someone who's unemployed?

Why does doing everything for a grown up "child" equate with doing our best for them - quite the opposite in fact.
