Help on obtaining a credit card?

I have recently tried to obtain an additional credit card ( i already have one with Natwest but only has a £400 limit) and thought to apply for a Sainsbury's ten month interest free option as i wanted to book some airline tickets however, i got refused for that (i then also phoned Natwest to ask for an increased credit limit but they said no). As i have recently moved back in with my parents, i presumed this was due to either a) not being on the voters roll and or b) a bad credit rating so i went onto experian and ordered my credit score and a credit search and it came back with absolutely no red marks etc and my credit score was just below excellent. Due to this i was adamant it was because i wasnt on the voters roll and this is why i got refused so i waited until i was registered and then applied for a tesco ten month interest free- Again i got refused. Now, the only reason i can think i have been refused is because i am quite a good payer, have no records of having late payments etc and the companies are not going to make money from me. Is this a valid reason that the credit would be refused?
I am now also overdrawn and have maxed my £400 credit card (newly single and bought airline tickets with overdraft!) so i owe in total about £1,200 which i would like to put on one credit card and not be overdrawn and work my way out of the situation- I have worked out that this will be cleared in a short time- i just want to be out of the overdraft and have the debt all in one place. Should i bother applying for maybe a 3 month interest free? I have now had 4 credit searches in the last 3 months.
I would appreciate any help in this matter as i do just want to consolidate it all!
Thanks in advace
