  • they should get a pay cut at the end of each year and no bonus.

if they don't like it, they can always opt for the sack instead.

the cs is stuffed full of pompous fools who actually believe they are doing something important.

look at haringey council who spent 150 quid on a christmas tree and ended up spending 1500 putting it up.

and look who the spokesman was: "Kaushika Amin, cabinet member for community cohesion and involvement"

what the hell job is that?????? she is costing the tax payer hundreds of thousands of the years and for what? cabinet member for involvement??? is that a joke?

She should be sacked. there is NO NEED for her job. It was created by one right on lefty to employ another one.
  • !!!!!! is a cabinet member for involvement???????????

I never got any bonus in the 3 years I worked in the civil service and neither did any of my co-workers in my department.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

the civil service didn't used to give bonus at all

a mad government decided that as private industry give bonus as incentives for outstanding contributions and to distinguish the good from the poor then the idea ought to be imported from the private sector

and a little hint.. the government was led by a Lady prime minister.

yep. correct. 'introducing market disciplines to the public sector' was the refrain back then; quickly followed by dominatrix 'madame strict' doing an about-turn and becoming lady bountiful, doling out juicy bonuses.

wonder where that leaves white horse's argument re 'lefties'....

these people are scum. there is no money to pay you bonuses. you are just cost to the taxpayer. you generate nothing except red tape and beareucracy.

You are all scum and 50% of you deserve the sack and the other 50% deserve pay cuts!!!!

Oh do get a grip - could you state your case reasonably and without pathetic attempts at rage? Shut up and breathe.......

Firstly, you need to learn the difference between "public" and "civil" servants as there is a BIG difference. Also, those that work in Whitehall are a very small percentage of the overall Civil Service group.

The average Civil Servant will get a very small performance related pay increase (if at all) and the bonuses you read about in the Daily Rage are blown out of all proportion. As another poster has already said - bonuses are often non-pensionable and so do save the taxpayer money for that very reason.

In some departments being categorised as an "excellent" performer (for which you will have had to demonstrate that you have exceeded your many, many already stretching targets) will get you another maybe £150 a year above those judged to have done a "good" job (as in they have met ALL targets) - Oh yes, drinks all round for that one . Not exactly going to be able to push the boat out on that one are they?

As to working conditions - try to work in an environment where policies are changed frequently by central government as a knee jerk reaction to the latest story in a red top paper, where more and more red tape is centrally created for less people to administer (vacancies are now often blocked) and where you have become a figure of general public hatred?

Yeah, it's a really great job.

As to your comment "you generate nothing except red tape" well, what about...
    • Administering tax collection (the money that is necessary to provide education, health care, roads etc)
    • Processing all of the many tax credits
    • Administering the benefits system
    • Supporting the legal / justice systems
    • Supporting the military / health care / police
    • Protecting our borders
I could go on listing but I suspect you aren't open to these views .

Nothing would be worse than the return of that blithering, megalomaniac, unelected idiot Brown along with his labour party.

I think the real villain was Blair and all his spin doctors. They did far more harm than good. What worries me is that Cameron models himself on Blair. Why can't we just have honest politicians?

Well said Tiddlywinks. And, yes, you're right - there are some really small minds at work on here!

We may complain about how these roles are performed but, in the main, they're done by people who work hard and try to do their best in a generally unfavourable climate. People who work hard and do their best, just like any other employee.

Wonder what sort of society we'd have if none of these functions were in operation. Not one I'd want to live in.

TWH, by all accounts from what I hear, you may get close to your wish. "Word" on the street is a 25% cut over 4 years of the next parliament. They may go for swathing cuts as soon as they get in power though, to get the pain out the way and allow for bigger savings.

Let's hope THW doesn't ever have to claim benefits, then. When an already-creaking benefits system gets a 25% staff cut, you'll no doubt be happy to go on the benefits board and shout-down the folks going on there to complain about weeks and weeks with no money to feed their family? You'll be happy to tell them to suffer for the greater good?

There is waste in the public sector, there are people being 'carried', who organisations could live without. However, this is rarely front-line staff, in my experience. It is usually middle and upper-management, inhabiting the fabled 'made-up' jobs. Sometimes, these are people who can't hack front-line work, so are promoted to get them out of the way (I kid you not).

Cutting staff in itself is not an issue, imo, but where the cuts are made needs to be thought through. Not something civil service mandarins or governments of either persuasion have a great track record in, unfortunately.
