Advice requested on buying a mini-disc

Dear All
I wish to purchase a mini-disc player with a recordable facility. All I speak to suggest the MN-NH1 by Sony, which is priced at £220 at its lowest. Clearly this is a very popular model as Currys, Dixons, Comet and several others state they have sold out and Sony are not manufacturing anymore. The good thing about these stores is they allow you to try it and exchange etc. Sony stores sell for £260. Argos have it at £300 - my question: It appears to be £100 more expensive than the MSNZ700S which does the same thing but comes in a plastic casing - what is the best deal?
I wish to record live events and replay them, download too for others etc.
Thanks folks

I don't know much about mini-disc players, but you could get a reasonable MP3 player for cheaper.0

Making the assumption that you're talking about the MZ-NH1 (can't see an MN one?) then the reason for the high price is that this is not only their flagship model, but also a Hi-MD recorder\ player. It allows up to 32 hours worth of recordings on 1 HI disc (which can be bought for around £1) So it really is the best of the best. See http://www.minidisc.org for some reviews
If you're after a standard min-disc player \ recorder then you can pick these up for under £100 easily.0 -
Hi-MD for a pound ?
Seen normal ones for around that (or slightly less). The 1Gb discs are like hen's teeth.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Really? I've use the old ones m'self, but sure my local shop sells them for around that (normal ones around 50p max).
That said it could have been a.) a special or more likely b.) me being daft/blind....0 -
13.5 hours (I think) on a standard reformatted MD
45 hours (using LP4) on a HiMD
Argos are doing the MZH600 for £99.99 at the moment (HI-MD recorder). I took mine back as I found the controls too fiddly and got fed up with Sonic Stage. (Still got my Aiwa NetMD).
I suspect when the next Argos Catalogue Clearance starts they'll be a few about cheap.

Its not big and its not clever.0 -
I've been a MD convert for many years now (oh how I laugh now at those who said MD was dead, DAT tapes were the future....), so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a HI-MD going cheap in the next agro's sale.... (oh and a palm powered device0

Thanks to everyone for responding.
I think I shall await the Argos sale and see what happens, I note the MZNH1 has already dropped by £50, Dixons and Comet have confirmed they cannot get any more.
I have bought the MZNH900 at £160 and am just comparing it with MZNH1. I never realised spending money would be so difficult!
Thanks again.0
