    Yes, it was Premier Direct

I asked to close the account (you have to contact them to close any account) at the end of the first year/15 months in 2008 and they offered me the 'new account' rate there and then. The following year I did the same but this time they could not offer it unless I first downgraded the account to 'basic' with a nil balance for 3 months and then asked for an upgrade. This I did and I have now re-qualified as a 'new' customer (except for the overdraft) and increased the balance to £2500 again.

(So they don't make it possible to use it as anything much other than a savings account really!)
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam

I assume you had to move DD and SO to another current account. Unfortunately I AM using the premier direct current acount AS A CURRENT ACCOUNT - salary paid in and everything. Thus I don't really want to close and switch. I suppose I can do what I do with my mobile contract - 'threaten' to cancel/close the account and ask for a better deal. Is that possible?

As a principle I do not use an a/c that I open for bonus or high interest rate/reward as my main a/c - this leaves me free to play with it as I please without going through the bother of changing DDs/SOs etc. if choose I to close.
