I know there is no congestion charge tomorrow so we were going to drive into the centre, butwhere to park?

Can anyone suggest a good parking place in the centre of London on christmas day?

Sorry it's a bit late to reply but it's always a good day to park for free in a private car park (one with no clamping, only scam 'fines' notices).

E.g. Supermarket car parks and the like. Ignore any ticket you get, plus any letters which follow. Do the same all year, when you go to footie away matches etc., we need to bring the whole business down - or at least annoy them!

Let's all cost the PPCs money in 2010! :T

It seems to me that we should be heading up a huge campaign to get the Government or the next one to outlaw clamping completely, as in Scotland. It is a disgace that they are allowed to get away withit. At the very least you should be allowed to legally cut the lock from the clamp.

I agree. I wonder if Martin can help with publicity, we don't want just another petition.

And seeing as legislation to pathetically tweak the regulations has been mentioned by the Queen this year, then Spring 2010 is the time to make a noise to the public and to the various political parties about this subject.

Those rogue clampers (Redroute and Cobra) who stupidly clamped people who had to abandon their cars last week, would make a fine example of what's wrong with allowing clamping to continue. Introducing regulations and a maximum fine level would NOT have weeded out those cowboys nor would it have prevented the clamping that day!

Nor did the act of clamping free up the spaces any quicker that day, of course (it never does as it's NOT a remedy for the 'contravention' it purports to address).

Maybe the blog about the Redroute clamping is a place for us to visit and put a link to a special 'Ban Clamping in 2010' thread here. Would you like to start such a thread, 27col?

Does any knowledgeable poster out there know exactly what the position in law is, about removing of clamps by aggrieved motorists. It seems to me that carrying a pair of bolt cutters around in the car would be quite a cheap solution to the problem. What, exactly are the implications of cutting off a clamp.
I am not quite sure how starting an anti-clamping thread would help to eliminate the clamping menace. It is obvious that they will continue to clamp regardless of any control regulations, unless someone can win a court case against them. Which appears to have been the case in Scotland.

In Jersey this year they have just introduced legislation which declares clamping to be a criminal offence. Their government didn't need a court case, AFAIK they were simply convinced by strenth of public opinion lobbying politicians, which is what we could do...
