I recently had AVG FREE added to pc as security.
Its been working ok, and friend who added to pc adv me it works in the background and updates. One eve while using pc (it was going really slow, its short of memory) i had to turn it off and reboot. AVG was scanning at the time and it never finished its scan. Since then its not worked correctly. I got it to manually scan the whole pc and it completed the scan but it only scanned just over 30,000 items. When it scans auto itself it scans over 50,000 items. Its auto scanned once since that nite, but every day since, it shows it will auto scan at 9 o'clock but never does it.
I need to get it to auto scan and not sure how to do it. Friend unavailable at moment and i'm not techi minded. Anyone help? (keep it simple please)

With the number of files its scanning I fear youve knackered your computer by powering it off
Why do you want to auto scan? Unless you believe its infected you should only really scan with AVG monthly or so. Scan with malwarebytes every couple of weeks (Manually update, and manually scan with it)
anyways ~
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
Thanks for the info aliEnRIK. As stated in post i'm not techi minded.. I thought it needed to be on auto. My friend had stated it works auto in the background while using pc. So thought thats what need to be on the system.
Please forgive me i know your trying to help and dont wish to appear ungrateful, but i've looked at the linked site in your post and feel wary about doing what you ask. The site itself states to be careful when taking any action.
When you say i've probably knackered my pc in what way do you mean?.0 -

Hi, it will be on 'auto' by default. That is the 'Resident Shield' component which scans all files opened saved etc. is on all the timeI thought it needed to be on auto.
What you refer to is a scheduled scan - this is a forced scan of the whole computer - which takes a while hence being scheduled to your liking.
You can disable the Resident Shield - but its unlikely that you have - and set a Scheduled scan for a given time or leave disabled. The 4 colour AVG icon on the bottom right on the desktop will have an exclamation mark if the Resident Shield is not working properly.
If you double click that box then you will see the status of the AVG program. On the left you will see 'Computer Scanner' click that, and then on the right it will say 'Manage Scheduled Scans' (in that it will say what time (if any) a full scan will run) and beneath this is a 'Scan History' button - that will tell you when the scheduled scans were run - check what it says.0 -
Thanks Zanzibar, thats what I have been chking. This is where it states the day and time of next scheduled scan, and it never takes place...eg its scheduled for 9 this eve, and i'm pretty sure it wont happen. Only once did the scan take place as scheduled.(the resident shield you refer to must be ok, there's no exclamation mark on the icon).
I dont know if its me expecting too much, but looking at the scan history since it was downloaded 2 mnths ago, it has scanned auto 4 times till I interuppted the 5th one. That was 2wks ago, and as I stated prev it has auto scanned once since then.0
