I have also been hit with a fine from these plonkers - I had parked motorbike between bays in a "free" car-park in a shopping centre whilst I literally went into the shop for 5 minutes to pick up a sandwich to take back to work for my lunch. Got a ticket for "obstructive parking" despite not being in anyones way....

..anyhow, got the standard £60 fine, followed by letter for £85, then £135, then £181 threatening debt recovery if it wasn't paid. I didn't answer any of them. Hey-ho got a letter from Roxburgh debt agents. I rang them and told them to pretty much !!!!!! off, not to contact me as I would consider it harassment as I had not comitted any offence or owed them any money. Suprise suprise, I have had a letter from Graham White solicitors saying I now owe the £181 and if I do not contact them in 7 days they will go to county court to seek judgement - if this happens it will be £181 plus up to £200 costs. I am assuming this is all part of the scam? It is unbelievable how companies can get away with this crap! To top it all, the stick wallet they attached to my bike fairing now won't come off as it has welded on there - maybe I ought to take them to small claims court to replace it!!!!

Try reading the new bit added to the stickies. http://www.insolvencyhelpline.co.uk/debt_factsheets/harassment_of_people_in_debt_by_creditors.php
Most of this applies to parking invoices as well. Read and relax.

  • PLEASE HELP! I recieved a ticket for £65 from these jokers on Brooklands Car Park in Sale, Manchester in September 09 for 'obstructive parking' (i.e. i had parked over a line because the bloke next to me had too so i had to move over to get in the space). I immediately sent an appeal letter explaining this. I know. I've since realised that all these threads tell you not to, but I did. But does this make me liable to pay any charges now?

Anyway, I recieved 2 letters yesterday - one to tell me that my appeal had failed (dated 11th December) and the other to tell me that I had now lost the opportunity to pay a discounted amount (dated 12th January).

So this morning I'm panicking - the letters have obviously been delayed with Christmas and snow and what not.

So I just called Central Ticketing and spoke to a robot called Emma. I explained that I had only just recieved a letter to tell me my appeal had failed and I was happy (kind of) to pay the £65 now. However all she said was prepared to say to me was "I can't do anything, you haven't paid within the dates outlined and you have to pay £100 now".

So she refused to accept £65 and I am extremely reluctant to pay £100 considering I only recieved the letter to explain my appeal had failed yesterday!!!!!

I want to ignore them like everybody advises to do but because I have sent an appeal letter, basically admitting that yes I was parked over a line but for a reason, do I have to pay now or face court action????

PLEASE PLEASSE HELP! I AM FUMING!

    Keep ignoring them.

All your contacting means is that they will bother you for a bit longer, the chances of any real legal action are still utterly miniscule. :)
  • Don't worry
    Don't pay
    Don't contact again
What other don't have I missed.
Just ignore the begging letters and spend the £65 on yourself or send it to the Haiti fund if you are happy to part with the money.

Assuming it is a supermarket, return to the store and fill a trolley with fresh, frozen and all other perishable goods that you can find.

Approach the tills then say "oh look at the time, I'd better get my car out of the car park". Dump the trolley and walk out of the store.

    Panic not!

No you're not happy to pay! Please don't pay them a penny, nothing will happen at all, believe us. They send some letters then they stop. On here we have ALL had these tickets and letters and have all survived unscathed and well-versed in this scam. It is a SCAM, nothing more.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I AM FUMING!

FUME NOT! Thank your lucky stars you checked here first.

HTH, read my signature and other threads!

I refer you to the advice from the posts above.

If your MIL is genuinely disabled and now have a valid blue badge and can produce it on demand, you can sleep soundly in your bed knowing your conscience is clear. Although council car parks must enforce things like dates on badges, you can treat private firms' tickets with the contempt they deserve - better to wipe from front to back though as those edges can be sharp :rotfl:
  • :Tthis my first time in the forum, ive been reading all the other info regarding private car parking fines, and hopefully ignoring the ticket will be ok. my mums also very worried. £85 is alot of money to pay. thankyou for the reassurance.
