Argos Insurance - is this right?

I bought an item from Argos, and took the insurance on it, after it was confirmed to me it covered accidental damage and also breakdown, I took it. So recently I accidentally broke the item - which was work about a tenner - and took it back to get it replaced. Which they did. Thing was, they also wrote 'used' on the receipt next to the insurance and crossed it out, and took the leaflet back. I didn't feel like getting into a massive argument, as the insurance only cost me one pound fifty.

However, I had been considering getting it for the Thompsons PVR 4000 I bought, and this stopped me in my tracks. Are Argos right on this situation? I sure as heck wasn't told about the one breakage, one use thing on the insurance. And what if an item got broken, then replaced, then had a mechanical failure? The insurance would be gone. Could anyone confirm whether Argos were in the right here?

Depends on the terms and conditions of the warrenty. I dont ever buy warrenties (and very rarely shop in Argos) so have to admit I havent read the t&Cs for their warrenties

Because you broke the item albeit accidentally, that uses up your insurance - it is not a manufacturing defect. If it had been a manufacturing defect within your guarantee it wouldnt have used it up but the t&c do say only one replacement if you break the item. As long as you have the receipt still, the item will be covered for one year from the date it was replaced for manufacturing defects.

Damn. Ah well. Thanks for the info, people. It was only a quid fifty, but I'm glad I found this out before I ended up insuring my PVR. In the latter case, I think I'll wait till the warranty expires and replace the hard disk in it.
