Have got your advice from the PM so will try that and report back.
When I searched, I found lots of people complaining but couldn't see whether others had really had much success either way.0 -

Charge cancelled!!
If anyone else is in the position of cancelling towards the end of a policy and so being asked to pay a cancellation charge on top of having paid the full premium then I would suggest you also push to get this waived.
I looked up Swinton's complaint steps (on their website) so I was able to use the right terminology for escalating their complaints. I was then (I hope) friendly to the people in branch and said I understood they probably couldn't waive it but said I wanted to take it through their complaint steps so it can then be passed through to the ombudsman. Outlined arguments that having paid the full premium, paying a cancellation charge on top did not seem in line with ombudsman guidance on fairness (see link above). The Adviser level person I spoke to in branch was not able to take a decision on it (I would suggest you try and speak to a manager if possible). I then asked to be put through to the Customer Assistance Team which is Swinton's step 2 complaint stage but I was asked then to wait for the Manager to be in to take a view on it. Just spoken to the Manager who has waived the charge!
Hope this helps anyone else in the same position and thanks to Swinton for being fair. :T0
