Troubles with a new laptop

My Oh has bought me a new laptop,:D so he can have my old one. Its operating system is Windows 7 can someone point me in the direction of how to link my google mail with windows mail. I need detailed insructions , I am not a techie.:eek::eek:

I also tried to create a recovery disc using DVD + R 4.7GB discs, the computer will not accept them......and yet it says in the booklet with the computer that it needs DVD + R discs. They are Tesco discs.

I am also having a problem linking to the internet, I cannot remember my security info for sky is there any way I can recover it from sky????

Okay, first of all. Are you talking about Windows Live Mail (The program you download onto your computer as part of the Essentials pack)? If so you'll need to set up your googlemail account in the program. I (or anyone else) will explain later if that's what you mean.

DVDs - will it not recognise that they are even in the computer? Have you tried using the burning software that probably should have come preinstalled?

Usually if you reset your router it will clear the security info, but this can get very messy when trying to set it all up again. If anyway can suggest a way to get it from Sky, this would be more beneficial.

If OP is talking about wireless the network name and passcode are on a label on the router.
If they have changed them then hook the router up with ethernet and log onto it.

Its usually: http://192.168.0.1/start.htm

PS As the above poster points out Windows 7 does not have Windows Mail, or Moviemaker as standard, Live essentials has to be downloaded.

More problems, I tried to install my printer it is not compatable with windows 7, its a new printer have only had it a few months.

Its the security code to sign on to sky that protects it from anyone else using it I cannot remember. I have found the one for NTL, our old provider, but cannot find the one for sky. Can I get it from sky or change it somehow?

I have had several of the DVD's in the computer and it just says they are not the correct ones and yet it says on them DVD +R 4.7GB.....I am at a loss....its driving me crackers. I did not have this problem when I started using a computer that ran Vista.

You need to attach to the router with a cable, or use another pc, and login to the router to get the encryption password.

Printer, not much you can do apart from look on the manufacturers website for a W7 driver.

Ethernet, but presumably you are using a pc now on the same router, so login to router using that.

OK I did whay you said it asked for user name and password, no matter what I put in I cannot get in, getting a bit fed up now........
