    re contribution based JSA
Thanks for all the replies to my query - for future ref - no questions were asked about savings etc only breakdown of amount on final payslip - (as long as you are not claiming any other benefits don't have to reveal savings/investments etc).
    Thanks again

  • savings over £50k AND a company pension????
    and you want benefits???????????

im saying nothing because i might say something that would most certainly offend!!!

EDIT: change of heart. why should i not voice my opinion. if i offend then im sorry.
there are people in this country that have to survive on benefits. i was made unemployed through illness. i didnt have any company pension. i had no choice but to go onto benefits. i didnt want to because of the stigma attatched and i was very reluctant. i would sooner work with my illness. i used all my savings to pay off some of my debts and now have to feed a partner and son on f**k all. whether you are entitled or not doesnt make it any more morally justified. it irks me that someone can have savings and a pension and be entitled to benefits. what irks me more is that they have no decency about it all.

this country is going t!ts up because all people want to do is take take take. and sod to them that actually need. if i had 50 grand and a pension the last thing i would do would be claim benefits. entitled or not. i think its absolutley disgusting and the fact they have awarded it you just about makes my blood boil.

sorry if some of you are offended but there are times when things need to be said
  • But chris057 has contributed to the system, he should be entitled to benefits- he'll only get 6 month anyway. What about all the people in this country who have benefits and have never- and are never likely to- contribute, should they be stopped? It smacks of double standards if you ask me? If indeed this country is going t*ts up, it isnt because of the likes of this person!!
Chris057 should be allowed his 6mnth JSA,I'm sure he's more than put 6mnth of JSA into the system....

how has he put more than 6 months of JSA into the system? what about free education? free NHS treatment? im afraid you dont have a choice on what your taxes go on. ive made tax contributions, does this entitle me to any and every benefit going? no. why? because i dont qualify. if he has 50 grand in savings then why should he be entitled. if he has a pension then why should he be entitled? the double standards isnt with whos claiming and whos contributing but with those who have !!!!!! loads of savings and a company pension but still feel a need to get money from the government

Im stumped that nowadays the benefits office is the first place someone turns too when being made redundant/resigns or simply wants a change of career, rather than an employment agency :o
  • Chris will only recieve 6mth CONTRIBUTION BASED jobseekers Allowance. I work too, but I really dont begrudge him 6mths JSA, he wouldnt qualify for free NHS treatment because of his savings.Free education??Dont know what you mean?
Personally I'd prefer to take issue with those who never work, sponge, and have no intention of ever working, and before I get shot down, I'm NOT saying that everyone that claims is a sponger, i'm saying that there are plenty of people that have no intention of contributing. I have a disability, thankfully I can still manage to work, but there are plenty of people that don't even try. Dont want this to turn into a slanging match, but perhaps the only way to change the system- as you're obviously so unhappy with current legislation & regulations- is to vote the current govt out of power in the next general election, then see what a State the Welfare State would be in!!!

I totally agree - I am in the same position - I had to leave work due to ill health and had no choice but to go to benefits. I had savings - well if you call £1000 in a savings account savings and that has all gone now and I am well in the red.

I agree with you on this too! If I had that much in savings/pension I wouldnt bother claiming benefits - I would feel that I woudl be able to get another job elsewhere - even if it was just temping for a while

Im certainly not offended - you said my thoughts first!

  • but thats the whole point, it isnt what you need- its what you're entitled too! Thats why most people come on here, or go to the cab, or welfare rights organisations, its too make sure they have what they're entitled too.
There is not- or should not be in the near future, such a thing as a beneift office, its all Jobcentre plus, your one stop shop. While making a claim, you're employment details are taken and a jobsearch is performed for your. I wouldnt go near any agencies, I've heard so many horror stories, promises of jobs that fall through, jobs advertised that dont even exist.....
Its obviously an emotive area, but we ALL should take advantage of what we're ALL ENTITLED too. Nuff said.

what saddens me is now the tories want to spread out child support benefits to benefit anyone with a kid no matter what their income is, who pays for this? the current claimants there benefits will be reduced.

thats true, if he has savings but not working I got nothing against him getting the JSA or incapacity if he was ill.
