PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Vendor staying on after completion

Ask yourself what is in it for you if you ageed. I'm not sure that you'll come up with any pluses but I can think of many minuses. The hassle, the worry and the risk are just not worth it.0

What, if on the Monday, they decided not to leave the premisis? Think about it. You have allowed them access so they cannot be accused of breaking and entering or squatting. They do not have a legal lease - you would have to have a different type of mortgage if you were buying to let, or at least have the banks permission to do so on your arranged mortgage - no lease, given them permission to be there? I should imagine a lengthy court case could arise from that situation.
Where would you and your property be over the weekend (assuming it was only for over the weekend)?
Personally, I would rather not buy the property if it ended up being a choice between them staying on and selling, or them messing around and saying it is part of the sale conditions they stay on.0 -
if the vendor refuses to move out, you have to take them to court for vacant possession. I asked my solicitor if you could get insurance against this happening, apparently you can't.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. There are a number reasons why this is a bad idea, but here's one
What if there were a fire or other damage over the weekend? The vendor's insurance won't cover them - as they no longer own the house. And your insurance won't cover you, as the vendor is either a tenant or a squatter.
Don't go there ... just, don'tWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
The vendor is trying to have his cake and eat it. The answer is for the vendor to ask for all parties to agree to completion being delayed until Monday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
