The Hut warning.

Ordered a game from The Hut.
It turned out to be the wrong version (my fault probably, but not sure).
Anyway... it turned up and it was sealed.... but in unofficial packaging.

So, I'm guessing I have got a refurbished or ex display disc. :(

I've contacted them, but they have simply ignored me, and according to their website I will have to pay their p+p costs and mine to get a refund.

I feel I'm going to have to do something that I hoped I'd never had to and do a visa chargeback :(
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Well, they're an online company so ex display doesnt make sense.
I know from working in retail that sometimes the plastic packaging gets ripped and it'll be put in a standard plastic sleeve. Nothing really wrong with this as long as the product is fine.

Personally I think youre making a big deal and are annoyed just because you made a mistake of ordering the wrong version.

Not really- I can't sell it as sealed, as I would get negative feedback because... well, it's not sealed in any way that matters to buyers. So I will get a lower price for it.

Ex display, maybe not, but it is probably a return, possibly one that has been used.
If I had wanted a used one then I would have bought from ebay or Amazon marketplace.

Why should they get a perfect price for it when I can't?

    You said it was sealed.
  • Non official sealing- no playstation strip, more like thick clingfilm that's been melted at the edges.

Its sealed then. No one would think otherwise. Seriously stop moaning.
  • As a ebay and amazon seller believe me they would think otherwise.
I've seen people negged for it, and rightly so.

They would assume that it was a used one and that I was trying to rip them off, as obviously used ones cost less than new ones.

The point is, as I posted earlier- if I wanted a used one (which this is- as soon as it has been opened it is used) then I could have got one, cheaper.

I can't use it, I can't sell it, and I can't return it as they're not responding. I do have 7 days, by law, to return it.
This is bad customer service, plain and simple.

  • What is it anyway? I cant see how you plan on making a profit after fees on a computer game.

The Force Unleashed, Ultimate Sith edition for PS3 (I'm TD's fiance, BTW). Amazon and Play haven't got it in stock.

The "sealed but not sealed" issue revolves around how it's sealed. PS3 games have a kind of rip line across the shrinkwrap stuff, which has Playstation 3 logo-ing on it. The game that arrived only had a kind of cheapo shrinkwrapping and no PS3 logo rip line.

Found this image which might explain what I mean:

    284582016.jpg
If you see where the Playstation 3 text runs up the side of the game boxes, there's a horizontal line going through the "P", and continuing across the box. This strip says "Playstation3 Playstation3 Playstation3...", and makes opening the games easier (and less annoying if you've got no nails :p)

The game we received doesn't have it, and the plastic wrapping seems lower quality than other PS3 games we've bought, especially the joins at the top and bottom of the box. So, it's either a fake (unlikely), or an opened then 3rd party resealed game, which obviously can't be classed as new. Because it's not.

Incidentally, The Hut haven't even acknowledged the email we sent them (even to say "sorry, you're screwed", so they're customer service is pretty poor.

  • You two are ridiculous. This will make no difference to selling it as new on ebay. You realise you wont make any profit on this anyway right?

the hint is in the previous post

amazon and play havent got it in stock

with games this usually means rare- which equals profitable.

dont take my word for it, i've stopped selling rare computers and games to collectors
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
