Problem sending email

I have a freeserve/wanadoo email address. Which works fine sending & receiving email when I use their pay per minute dial up number. The problem I have is when I use my new PC which has a broadband connection through Metronet. I can receive email but not send them, the following error message appears:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'xxxx@yahoo.com'. Subject 'Test 1', Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Administrative prohibition', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
I'm sure when it was first set up it worked OK via a metronet connection, but the timescale could have overlapped when I still had a freeserve anytime account.
Using Windows XP home and IE 6.

Set up 2 accounts, one for Metronet and one for FS.
Use Metronet for both POP 3 and SMTP for the first account.
Use Freeserve for POP 3 and Metronet for SMTP for the second account.
Select connection to Any Available or LAN for both.
Choose whichever you wish to be default.

Ye that's right.
Bit confusing but basically ISPs dont like you sending emails from other connections (they want to make money so they want you to use Freeserve connection to email using your Freeserve address).
Some where in the options in Outlook + Outlook Express, you can set a 'reply email address'. This means if you want to send from Metro ISP, but would like people to reply to the freeserve email address you put your freeserve email address in that option.0 -
I thought that might be the case. Only prob there is metronet don't provide email accounts so I'll need to look at something else for email, any suggestions.?0

Pedantic point, but that's not why they prohibit it - the reason they only allow their own subscribers to send through their own SMTP server is to stop spammers hijacking it to send their junk through.
FYI, if you do a Google search for "open SMTP relay" you'll find loads of servers which haven't been properly configured and could be a spammer's playground...0 -

Have a look at this and other pages on the MetroNet site
http://support.metronet.co.uk/e-mail/previous-email.xhtml1
"It is possible to use an existing e-mail account, or an e-mail account provided by another provider when connected to Metronet. Although due to some commone misconceptions it might at first appear not to work.
The details about the incomming (POP or IMAP) mail server will be those provided by the other ISP. These details will be an incomming server address, a username and a password.
The outgoing (SMTP) server, however, will need to be our outgoing server. The page about e-mail misconceptions explains why. Our outgoing mailserver is ‘smtp.metronet.co.uk’ "
I had a similar problem when I changed to fast4net and was given this advice from a member of MSE. I can send onetel & Tiscali mail now when connected via fast4net.(when I can get on!)

Perfect, I'll give that a go tonight, hopefully it should work. I didn't even look at metronets website as I had in my mind they didn't provide emails account.
Thanks for your help.0 -
That's it working fine now, going out via SMTP.metronet.co.uk - I've tried sending a few email to myself to test it and some of them come through marked as ***SPAM*** :-/ . But other than that everythings fine now.0
