Duvet help-too good to be true?

We want to buy a new king size duvet, and we have decided we want a natural filling as opposed to synthetic.
I have been looking online and there seems to be a huge variation in costs. I know I want a high% of down (pref 100% as don't like the feel of feathers!) and looking at john lewis I could pay 430, but found these people on ebay and I could get a 13.5tog for 90, or all seasons for 130 plus postage
Now-does anyone think that this IS a good deal, or am I just readying myself for a bad experience? And would you recommend an all seasons duvet? I like the idea of a lighterweight one for autumn, we currently have a 13.5 tog for winter and a 4 tog for summer-these are double, but want the extra cosiness of a king size one, so the all seasons would mean no extra duvets would need to be purchased.
Thanks for any advice

Well, I'm no expert on duvets, but earlier this year I saw some natural duvets (90% goose down 10% goose feathers, I think) at Tchibo for crazy prices (I think King Size 10.5 TOG was £25).
I needed a new duvet and decided it was worth the risk at that price, so I got one - and I'm very happy with it. I find it very comfortable, and probably better than one I had before from a high street department store.
Based on that experience I wouldn't say it's impossible to get a half-decent duvet for a good price.
Of course, if you can wait until after Christmas you might get some even better deals...Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

I bought a microfibre one from John Lewis a year or so ago. It's one of those ones with 2 separate duvet weights and they can be used separately or together (snap together with press studs). It was about £100 for a double. Feels better than a cheaper fibre one I had previously from Argos.0

We got a nice (mainly down) Ikea one for just over £80 king size, so your price is ok.0

John Lewis clearance starts tomorrow at 6pm on-line. They have duck down (unstated mix of down and feather) and premium goose down (10% feather) listed, you might find more in store if you can get there (from 27th).
Personally I have a John Lewis 4.5 tog Hungarian goose down which keeps me toasty warm even with the heating turned off at night.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
48 down, 22 to go
Low carb, low oxalate Primal + dairy
From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...0 -

I second John Lewis as well as in the last two years I have bought a summer and winter duvet from them. They also have good deals on pillows.
Just adding that it is usually the John Lewis branded ones that are discounted.0 -
I bought duvets for every member of my family from http://www.duvetandpillowwarehouse.co.uk/default.htm.
I'm delighted with them0 -

I have bought two goose down duvets separately last month. One from Amazon, and one from ebay, both claimed 100% goose down. I am afraid I had to return both. They would have been lovely and warm for this cold weather. Unfortunately the odour was very bad. I tried to air each for almost a week, the greasy animal smell just stayed in the room. I am just wondering are all goose down duvets smell like that. Will John Lewis's product better? Can anyone comment?0 -
Hi Sya220,
We had bought a pair of duck feather & down pillows in John Lewis summer sales, which smelled fantastically sweet and clean for two months or so, then just faded to a clean feathery smell. I can't wait to put my head on mine, daily! We keep them in 100% cotton protective pillowcases and air them / change sheet pillowcases regularly.
We therefore went back to JL expecting to snatch a good bargain to replace my partner's ancient duck feather duvet, and sure enough they had several products on special purchase. We got a double All Seasons (9+4.5 tog) Premium White Goose, 90% down/10% feather, for £145. It was in a black box which are the pricey ones so I checked the cheapest ordinary-priced black-box duvet, which is Hungarian Goose Down 100% at £280. I also checked the manufacturer's website, Herbert Parkinson (JL website gives their name and a video) who state they only use Hungarian, Russian and Siberian goose down. So I'm guessing it's an unspecified mix of those.
I can't feel any feather stalks at all, it feels good and smells fantastically but fainter than the pillows, and is four times lighter than our old duvet!! We aired it for a night and tried it on last night - can't describe the feelingI've been feeling sweaty at night lately and toss and turn, but last night, it was just bliss - warm without getting hot. Slept like a baby so I recommend it. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the advice,
We decided to take a chance on the ebay one-if rubbish could return, but it is AMAZING. We got an all seasons one, its really light and fluffy and wraps itself round you. I also treated us to a set of 1000 thread count egyptian cotton duvet and pillow covers, and its like sleeping in a top hotel. I love it0
