SAinsbury's Gift Vouchers

Hi
I bought a gift card from Sainsburys for 'New Look'. Half and hour later I went back and tried to exchange it for a Body Shop one. I had my receipts and the Voucher was of equal value. I was told it was against company policy as it was a third party voucher and nothing to do with them. Once activated it could not be de-activated. I argued with the manager and he eventually agreed to swap it for me. He said he was going against company procedure and he might get the sack.
Was I in right that I should have been able to exchange this voucher. Sainsbury's sold it to me so they should exchange it should'nt they?

Well, the short answer is no! You bought a voucher and then you changed your mind - I can't really see why the store should have to sort out an exchange for you especially on a voucher (which clearly can't be faulty!)
Stores don't HAVE to exchange/refund anything if its not faulty, they often do so - but thats just their 'over and above' customer friendly policy. I expect a gift voucher is a bit more of a fiddle to do than a swap on an electical item or clothing.ELITE 5:2

Well done for getting them swapped but it was completely out of goodwill, no swap was required.0

You had no rights whatsoever to get it swapped, because for all they knew, you'd already used the voucher and were handing them back an empty card!
Very nice of Sainsburys to change it for you.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
And the manager was telling the truth, once activated they cannot be un-activated, same as mobile top-up vouchers.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
