I have a HP laserjet 1005 printer, NOT a HP laserjet P1005, there is a difference.
There are no drivers for Windows 7 and none will be released.
I have an old computer that has XP on it and when I want to print anything I fire up the old XP computer, transfer the files and print.
However I also have to swap the monitor:eek:.
Is there anyway I can use the old computer as a print server and would it enable me to print from the Windows 7 computer without any Windows 7 drivers. Or does it not work like that?
I can network the computers together and tried to print from the Windows 7 computer but of course, because there are no drivers, it doesn't work.
Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new printer?

are there any vista drivers for the printer?
vista drivers should work fine on 7, just like win2000 drivers installed on xp.0 -
could just enable remote desktop on the windows xp machine and connect that way job done.
isn't this the driver

I don't have Windows 7, so cannot guarantee this will work the same, but I had a similar problem when I upgraded from XP to Vista - no new drivers written for my Epson 1280 printer and the XP ones did not work.
In Vista, if you right click on the exe / install file of the XP driver and select Properties and then Compatability it is possible to install the driver in Compatability Mode for XP (or even earlier versions of Windows)
I would guess that Windows 7 has the same facility for installing in compatability mode for Vista or XP. You should find that the printer will then work.
Eventually, Epson did write the Vista drivers for my printer.0 -
nope. read the 1st line of the post.0 -

Lots of fannying around when there's a solution out there that seems to be unknown to a lot of people despite getting headlines in IT news...Robert2009 wrote: »I have a HP laserjet 1005 printer, NOT a HP laserjet P1005, there is a difference.

Use the Xerox Global Printer Driver. Works on all printers, Xerox and non Xerox, that support PCL and/or Postscript which is just about everything.
THIS WILL WORK FOR ANYONE WITH AN UNSUPPORTED PRINTER OF PRETTY MUCH ANY MAKE OR MODEL.

except a HP laserjet 1005 series
Back to the original Q.

Wrong. A quick Google reveals a raft of Postscript drivers for it....
First three on the HP download page for it here are:
PCL5
PCL 6
Postscript...

The printer must have PS printing capabilities. This can be verified on the printer’s Configuration Page.
A HP laserjet 1005 does not have these capabilities0 -

The printer companies want you to buy a new one, so they have no interest in helping you not to.
Try using the wrong driver, a nearby printer model number will often work. Also often a printer model will comes as a printer and as a printer/scanner model (with a completely different model name), you can often figure that out and use the other driver.
Having said that, you can usually set a computer to share its own printer over the network. This sounds like what you want. You give the other computer the IP address of the computer with the printer.
There are also various Linux based print-server Live CDs that can do the job for you.0
