    Red wine.

    glug glug enjoy.

However rather than looking for foods that reduce it? Ask yourself why it is high? What is your current diet like? How much do you exercise.

The foods that reduce it, only do so as part of a healthy diet/lifestyle. An Avocado or two isn't going to counter burgers and chips.

nil it's not an excuse but i suffer with ocd and i don't want to open up another debate about adropause (had that on another thread) i cannot get motivated which was one reason for my blood tests i'm extremly fitigued all the time motivation is non exixtant no matter how much i try and belive me i do try but my ocd does get in the way

i accept there is no easy answer but if the is a simplier way to reduce my cholestrol then i'm willing to have a go.

ta for giving me your advice.
  • Well the good news is that the tablets your GP has given you (I presume it's a statin) should do the bulk of the work. Changing your diet will help but to a smaller degree.

I don't think any specific foods will actually reduce your cholesterol, it's more a case of using your common sense and avoiding the obvious foods which could make it worse. By the way, it's not necessarily your fault that your cholesterol is high. Some people have high cholesterol even though they eat a very healthy diet.

    soluble fibre (apples. oats)
    soya milk.
main meals. look at things like lentils etc. you could look at gillian mckeiths way of eating, but maybe not so extreme. or see a nutritionalist.Good Luck.
My mum normally eats a very healthy diet. but hers still shot up to 9.7.
healthy as in mostly hypoalergenic. low bads fats etc.
so is on the statins, is back down to 4.6.
still eats a mostly very healthy diet.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.
  • Try using something like Benecol or Flora proactive as a spread for your sandwiches/toast etc rather than butter or marg. This helps to reduce cholesterol levels (but there is no point in eating it excessively as it will make no difference to your levels by eating more)

Fresh pomegranate is also good at reducing cholesterol levels - I think you can also buy pomegranate fruit juices.

Look at getting lean meat, fish and just generally up your fruit and vegetable consumption - try taking a look at the glycaemic index foods (google it), use something like 'Fry light' - a spray oil for if you are frying mince off or similar, use olive oil for frying things like onions/mushrooms.

Statins can have some unpleasant side effects so it is best to try and reduce your cholesterol levels by addressing your diet so that your statin dose can be reduced by your health professional - however, do not stop taking the statins unless medically advised to as having raised cholesterol is a risk to your cardiovascular health.

    Whats your BP like?

Unsalted pistachio nuts, pomegranate fruit, pumpkin seeds, my dad had high cholesterol and reduced it very quickly with these foods especially the pumpkin seeds - good luck:)

  • hi everyone and thanks for the advice

i don't have a high fat diet which has confused me over the last 12 months i've had several blod tests and each time my cholestrol has gone up to an extent where today i was prescribed medication (i won't post the name as it's a non medical forum)

can i ask would high cholestrol be a reason for feeling fitigued all the time?

and thanks for the tips re suggested food.
  • You really need to be finding the answer to why you have high cholesterol

High Cholestorol can be hereditary, i have that. I eat healthy, dont eat big meals, but in my doctors opinion mine is the hereditary kind. 7 stone wet through, so weight isnt to blame.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
