Dell Printer And Homeplugs

I was give a second hand Dell 1600n laser printer and have now got it back into good working order. Next step is to network it.

My current setup is that I have a desktop connected to a Netgear Wireless Router. Plus a homeplug connected to the router and plugged into the mains.(all in the one room)
And a homeplug connected to my laptop, which of course can be moved about.

I want to keep the Dell 1600n in a different room from the router and my question is: can I network the printer by simply connecting another homeplug to the printer?

I ask the question because at the moment I haven't got a spare and I don't really want to buy an additional one just on the off chance that it will work.

Should I not be able to network via homeplugs any suggestions as to the best way to do so. Remember if possible I want to keep the printer in a different room from the desktop which acts as my server.

Many thanks and if I don't get back to you a happy Christmas to all.

Kevin

I can't foresee any problem with that - try hooking the printer up to the router directly via normal network cable and see if you can see it through the router control panel?
You may have to fiddle with the printer set-up via it's control panel - manual is here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/1600n/ and check the network set-up instructions (you may need to find the netmask and gateway settings from your router).

If the printer is visible then I'd suggest you give it a static internal IP and map it on your laptop - then order a homeplug pronto!!!!

It should work fine but can't you do a test using the homeplug you normally use for the laptop?
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I can if you've a radio amateur or any shortwave listener within 100ft of your house. They emit a lot of interference across many HF bands. I've had OFCOM out to three of my neighbours to get these illegal devices removed. Sadly unlike other countries, OFCOM seem fit to let these things still be sold despite them not complying with the CE certification they claim to have.
