Mysterious Debit Card Transaction

Spotted this on my online banking the other day. £0.13 taken out of my account via debit card in London - not sure whether it's a shop or a website. It's labelled as "Conservative".

Either way I've not bought anything for £0.13 that I can think of, nor have I been anywhere near London. What the hell is Conservative!? Only thing I can think of is the political party...

Should I be worried?

if you did not make the transaction then contact your bank asap and report it as a disputed transaction.

many card fraudsters charge small amounts to cards to see if they are active and then go for the big charge.

    Phone your bank.

I second that. Thats what happened to me and many others last year. Amounts of £1 taken then they went in for the kill . Practically my whole village got scammed. Check it out with your bank !!
  • Phoned them up.

She couldn't find any more details about it, other than it was down as being a 'political organisation'. I definitely haven't given any money to the Conservative party so I asked her to go ahead with the fraud procedure.

Card has been cancelled and they'll get back to me over the next couple of weeks if they find anything else out :)

    Thanks to you both!

Did you ever find out how they got your details?

Yes. It was from a stolen chip and pin machine at our local garage. Its a small village and this is the only garage/shop in it so is used by lots of people. Almost everyone was scammed with amounts from £20 to £500 !! with transactions going all over the world (mine went to Ghana !!) and all started off with the obligatory £1 transaction. I dread to think what the total amount was, but it was all done within an hour overnight. That little experience has made me very cautious, so now pay mostly by cash. I seem to spend less though, so it's not all bad
