I have radiator problems=advice please

Options
I have 2 radiators which are lukewarm at top and cold at bottom. My initial thought was that they needed bleeding but they dont. When I put the key thing in water comes out so unless there is an air lock lower down its not that. The radiators coincidentally are in line with one another-1 in bedroom and the other immediately underneath.

Any suggestions on what it may be. Its only a recent thing.

Would it help if I completely drained all the water out with the bleed key or would this not help at all?

thanks

Are the radiators turned on, there are taps both ends, one will be covered with a blanking cap.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Are they also the ones furthest away from the boiler?

if there is no air in the system then maybe the rads are blocked up with sludge.
a complete drain and a good flushing out will hopefully sort it.

yes the radiators are on just luke warm at the top.

I have taken thecap off the bottom bit which has the plus and minus on and it cant be moved anymore to the plus side. Thet were ok a few weeks ago as far as I know.

I have googled it a bit and looks like I may have to take the rad off and drain it. I dont have the knowledge to do that so it will have to wait a while. Plus I have just had a new carpet in that room and dont want to risk getting gunky water all over it

you should have a draincock somewhere, (lowest part of the system), as the piccy above.
connect a hose to it, and open the valve.

    ps.
feed the hose outside into the garden.
    Get some gorm.
  • I would give the valves a gentle knock before trying to bleed down the system in this weather.

Also how do you know it sludge & not another problem like a pump ?

It may be rather premature to be draining the radiators.

What is your boiler make / model, do you have tanks and a cylinder in your airing cupboard in your roof and do you have a circulator pump (prolly close to the cylinder). If you have a circulator what is its speed setting?
I have taken the cap off the bottom bit which has the plus and minus on and it cant be moved anymore to the plus side. Thet were ok a few weeks ago as far as I know.

    Does it look like this:
