Ive been paid too much!?

I predict a post in Jan from the OP along the lines of
"They have deducted money from my salary, can they do this?"
and
"Its THEIR mistake, why should I suffer"
and
"I knew I was overpaid but spent it anyway, can they recover it"?
and then, finally,
"I have lost my job and on JSA, my last company claim they overpaid me and want money back, can they do this? Where do I stand?"
etc etc.
(The OP knows they have been overpaid).

Well I would query it. They are likely to pick it up later anyway and they will be impressed by your honesty (and you might want a reference off them in the future).
If it does turn out to be an overpayment, ask if you can pay it back bit by bit.0 -
The money may well be legit, what does it say on your payslip,
why do you think they have overpaid you?make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
As another poster has said, in this case the proof is in the payslip. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

if you think that you have been overpaid and won't check the situation as you really really need this money and you think a) the company won't notice and b) they're really rich anyway so won't miss it, can I suggest next time you're in take £300 from the till.
After all what's the difference??2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.

I don't think at all Foxy Roxy ever suggested that you were ever being dishonest.
Well no, but then I didn't think they were. I think you possibly replied to the wrong person?I think her/his reaction was provoked by this stupid comment:
"I REALLY want to keep the money and all my family and friends are telling me to keep quiet. What should I do? If im being honest calling my employer is the last thing Im going to do. The company is rich enough. "
So if a young person (remember they are a student according to their post) does something "stupid" should we belittle them or give them guidance to find the right path? Now I'm one of the first people to tell idiotic people that they're idiots, but sometimes that isn't the most productive path when you might instead be able to encourage someone to do the right thing. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
First mistake - what if they'd underpaid you, would you ever know? If you work irregular hours or have tips, then it's in your own interests to keep an eye on things!Ive not kept an exact diary of my hours or the tips ive earnt but Im pretty sure I have been overpaid.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Yesterday I was overpaid by roughly £300.
Ive recently started working in a restaurant part time as I am a student. Some of the tips i earn are paid to us in our monthly salary, ive been working for about 2 months and its the first time ive been paid. Ive not kept an exact diary of my hours or the tips ive earnt but Im pretty sure I have been overpaid. I REALLY want to keep the money and all my family and friends are telling me to keep quiet. What should I do? If im being honest calling my employer is the last thing Im going to do. The company is rich enough. :j
Sounds great but in theory the money is not yours. I think it would look better if you approached them rather than the other way round.
As the company may question your honesty & integrity in future.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
