CD/DVD drive not working

Hi
I have an Acer aspire L100 PC and my CD drive has stopped working, can anyone tell me what is a reasonable time to expect it to last?
Thanks and Happy Christmas to you all

Is this a desktop? Age of PC? Often depends on wear and tear; and if a desktop a replacement DVD drive would set you back a couple of quid. Very easy to install ;)

^That's a reasonable enough amount of time; does the tray still open? What happens when you attempt to play a cd/dvd? Otherwise, as I say, only a couple of quid ;)

There isn't a tray, there is just a slot similar to a car CD player, I can put the disc in and remove it but it just makes a noise (when in) as if it is struggling to try and do something.
    Thanks

^^^Looks like a new drive would be in order; failing that you could purchase an external usb drive but speed/performance might be a negating factor ;)

I think that will have to be the answer, an external drive.
Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas.
