Renting My First House.

Hi All

I have just purchased a nice little 3 bedroom bungalow, I want to rent out the entire house at present, what do I need to be aware of?

I plan not to furnish the house e.g. there will be no beds, tables and chairs etc, there will however be a cooker, fridge, washing machine as well as curtains and blinds in all the rooms. I plan to ensure the house is clean before letting it out and there is one smoke detector installed.

I will also take ownership with regard to the upkeep of the garden.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

  • Erm, shouldn't you have looked into all of this before you actually bought the property? Professional landlords can have a hard enough time running their business looking after their investment and their tenants plus their own tax-affairs never mind an amateur one.

Join a landlords association and read up on your legal obligations on landlordzone BEFORE you even let a prospective tenant in to view!
  • Ask your lender for permission.
