Hi,We are thinking of taking our 5 year old lad to Warwick Castle in August. Are there any other places that might be of interest to the lad in the East & West Midlands? Thanks.

Coventry is home to the Road Transport Museum - lots of cars and buses for the little fellow to enjoy.
Leicester has the National Space Centre - not sure how good it is for that age group, although they are bound to have a web presence.
And Kenilworth Castle is re-opening fully this year after some refurbishment work, and they're having lots of special events to mark the occasion. Worth checking if there's jousting or similar going on while you're in the area!Mortgage at outset (May 2004): £80,000
Mortgage now (October 2007): £58,000
Original mortgage-free date: May 2024
Expected mortgage-free date: December 2014
Projected interest saving: £21,1000 -

It's quite a nice castle, but once you have looked round the castle, there's not much else to do, which for 20 quid is a bit ridiculous. I wouldn#t mind so much if it were owned by the National Trust or English Heritage, but it's not. It's owned by Madame Tussauds, and they must be making a fortune from the place.
Go to Stratford, there are loads of interesting Shakespeare themed attractions there.0 -
Chatsworth House in Derbyshire is a Nice place to Visit on a Summery Day, not sure if your lad might get bored though !!!0

American Adventure at Ilkeston, Derbyshire, ideal for a 5 year old.

The Airforce museum at Cosford is good and probably the sort of thing a young lad would enjoy.
Best of all it's free!0 -

Hi,Thank you to everyone's suggestion. The Road Transport Museum, National Space Centre, American Adventure sounds like good possiblities. The little one is more into trucks and cars rather than planes, so I think we will give the Airforce museum a miss. Chatsworth House sounds lovely to me. However, I think we will get lots of "can we go now?" if we go there. We've been to Stratford before.Cheers.0

I like the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley but it might be a bit of a way from where you are staying. It's great to go round it with my dad because most of the buildings in it are from places in the town and the school is the school he went to.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Snibston Discovery Park at Coalville in Leicestershire. It is one of those hands-on science places including a water experimants area outside. Also there's an optional tour of the former colliery.

Coventry's Museum of British Road Transport is indeed superb. It has both Thrust2 and ThrustSSC, with a simulator ride for the latter. Lots of wonderful vehicles, and some good stuff on WWII too.
And in the best traditions of MSE, it's all FREEEEE :j0
