New Metal Light - No Earth Connection.

Options
I've recently purchased a light (IKEA) which is metal and has a junction box with live and neutral. It doesn't have a connection for Earth.

The wiring in our ceiling has live, neutral and earth (this has just been rewired).

My understanding is that what I need to do is connect the earth wire from the ceiling to the metal part of the light, despite there being no 'dedicated' connection on the light.

Can anyone confirm my logic?

Are you sure there's not a seperate earth connection on the metal body of the light? I've seen lights like this which have a terminal block for live/neutral, but a seperate screw terminal on the body for earth.

The metal box should have a terminal screw at least to connect up the earth from the house wiring.

I don't suppose there are any instructions?
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

It isn't a low voltage lamp, is it?

    It's not low voltage.

I can't see a screw to connect to... perhaps I'm missing the obvious, I'll double check when I get home.

If its double insulated it must NOT have a connection to earth. I'd suggest you check the instructions.

If it is double insulated, it will have a square box with another little square box inside it somewhere on the assembly.

This is a graphic symbol, not actual boxes
