Why is my mouse playing up??

I have a cordless Logitech mouse and it's driving me nuts!! Since Monday it's been slow and unresponsive. I've changed the batteries and checked the drivers and it's just the same.

Any ideas please? Could it just be worn out??

Is it showing fully working in Device Manager? No red exclamation marks? Which OS?
  • It says it's working fine in Device Manager. I've checked the drivers, checked for spyware and done a virus scan. Running Vista (unfortunately).

Is there a back-plate on the mouse which you can remove (sometimes requires removal of a few screws) and give it a clean? Is this usb or bluetooth; I suspect the former. Are you plugging the usb adapter into a hub or directly into the usb port? Can you a try different usb port?
  • Receiver to far away - using a metal mouse mat - PC busy doing something else - other devices interference - ?

Probably interference, or the sender or receiver (or both) might be on their way out. Mine packed up, despite all looking fine on the pc, drivers etc. I just chucked it I am afraid.

You might want to try it on another PC if possible.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
  • It's working!!!

I've done several things so can't isolate which one: I've give the base a good clean even though the plate does not remove, put some different batteries in just case (my boss gave me the other ones straight out of his drawer), wiggled the hub and moved it closer.

    Thanks everyone!

On some mouses you can get problems with a hair/dust obstructing the infra red, and then the mouse preforms erratically
  • Poorly connections on the USB, reseating helps occasionally. Also new Duracells might be best for long term use, not rechargeable's. Use a rechargeable mouse with docking station.
