Equipment needed for mini telephone exchange. ??? ,,.., help

Hi folks

My business currently runs via an "old" PBX exchange which needs replacing really. Various engineers over the past 2yrs have said it needs replacing but they seem to suggest it will cost 500quid plus.

All the system is 2 phone lines A and B say. Units 1 and 2 , the Office (no. 3) and the Home (no.4) share these 2 lines with the ability to transfer calls etc between themselves. All I want is a cheap replacment unit/system that will enable me and my staff to transfer calls etc while sharing these 2 lines. Another complication is that I want broadband setup which I assume will be straightforward as long as I put a microfilter b4 the exchange unit.

I do not want anything fancy just something cheap and reliable. Ability to handle loads of extra lines/units is of no importance.

Hope u can help

Jules

Bear in mind I am a complete novice/dummy when it comes to PBX systems etc.

Some suggested retailers (online) of this sort of equipment would be handy alongside any websites explaining how to setup/replace/upgrade an old exchange system.

You are looking for a new phone system. hmm
they arnt cheap Ive installd a few in the past avaya/network alchemy, panasonic, alcatel. the quote of £500 doesnt seem bad if everything is included. I even used a system called Voispeed it uses a pc as the pbx and a card inthe pc to connect the line to. Unfortunaly most systems now use ISDN lines due to all the benifits of them.

The Voispeed could be a good option for you it can be used over adsl as a remote office.
Example which could be good for you
An ISDN2e (2 lines) at the office 1 anologue line ADSL connection at home
the anologue line is for ADSL and your fax can go on it too.
one of your pcs will have the pbx system on it you can use USB handsets on PC's which are pretty cheap as they work in conjunction with a phone manager peice of software where you do all the dialing. You can even use the PC soundcard with either a mic and speakers or a headset with a mic the pc's comuniacte with the server rather than the phones thi is why you can use them in remote offices say your home. calls can be transfered to any location and for free even the remote locations.
    This company sell the system.

your other option is to pay BT, they can link up 4 lines in to a system that you can transfer the calls between Im unsure about the costs from BT but all you need is 4 lines and 4 phones which you may already have.

Why not speak to the phone line suppiers about your requirements both in terms of lines (phone and DSL/ ADSL) and what other equipment you would need. They will be able to advise you (and probably try to sell you) the equipment but you can take their advice and then look elsewhere for the items.
