This message means there is a problem with the ntfs file system on your pc in particular the ntfs.sys file which enables computers to read/write to ntfs partitions.
If you can access the recovery console try running 'chkdsk /r' (without the appostrophes!). This will check the file system and attempt to resolve and errors.
Failing that take a look on the all knowing Google for the stop error, I'm sure there will be more in depth descriptions of the problem there!

Run Recovery Console by inserting your Windows OS CD, Press R when asked. Select the OS partition (1 or 2), type your logo on password.
Exit and restart.0 -

We have tried the chkdsk C: /r using recovery console which didn't help. The only other thing i can really think of is to connect it to another machine either by HDD caddy or inserting straight into another machine.
Had a similar problem with a friend which turned out to be malware/virus issues.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -
Have a look at this article, and at the Microsoft article it points to. Ignore the comments about Windows 2000 - it's the file system which is relevant!0
