Advice needed on Storage Heaters

I saw your message on another thread but I don't understand why you think that.
I now see that economy 7 may not be the best for me but I'm told I'm on economy 7, my bill states I'm on economy 7 and the actual unit charges on my bill match up with the economy 7 unit charges on their website.
Economy 7 is always dual rate tariff. Normal and low rates only.
You have a 3 rate tariff, Normal, night and heat rates.
(Do not confuse rates with tiers. Tiers are used in place of of a standing charge by many suppliers.
e.g. according to your first bill you were charged for normal rate at Tier 1 cost of 23.200p per kWh for initial 728kWh per year and 15.390p per kWh for the remainder)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
My Tariff is advertised as Economy 7 also. I have 3 rates.
So either Economy 7 can cover more than 2 rates or the suppliers literature/information is not quite correct.0 -

Thanks Viper, I'm slowly getting my heard round this.
Will my energy company know what times my heat rate is used? I don't know whether to call them up and ask them as everyone I speak to there seems to tell me something different.
The engineer is still booked to come out on the 4th, do they tend to have a better understanding?0 -
Hi,
might as well wait now, the engineer should be able to tell, and it's better talking face to face, than getting a wee lass in a call centre, who probably has never seem a meter.
You supplier's web site should tell you the times, your heater switches may have a wee red indicator light (neon) that lets you know when they are charging.
Have you been taking a daily meter reading?
Oh, and on my comfort plus, the heating rate is the cheapest of them all.0 -
Hi frugalmacdugal
I haven't taken daily readings but I could do, why do you think I'll need these?
I can't find the timings on NPowers website because as far as I can tell they don't support economy 10, or at least I can't find mention of it on their website. I've found out their economy 7 times (12am - 7am) but if I'm being charged a separate heat rate then that is because my heaters are coming on 3 times a day- once in the afternoon, once in the evening and once overnight..... right?
I'm very confused by this!
Can you tell me who your provider is please? I'm finding it difficult to find out who supports economy 10 by doing online searches.0 -
Hi,
I'm with Scottish Power.
ComfortPlus White Meter
Daily st ch, ex vat, 17.34p, Day 11.613p, Night 5.242p, Control 4.630p,
Daily st ch incl vat, 18.21p, Day 12.194p, Night 5.504p, Control 4.862p.
The only reason for meter reading was to give you an idea what you were using on the heating.
Are you sure the heating is coming on 3 times a day?0 -
I have no idea, I've just been told that's what happens.
I had originally assumed the heating is coming on overnight as I thought I was being heated by economy 7.
If my heating is coming on overnight only then there's no reason for me to be charged a third rate is there? The only reason for that is so the heating can be on a seperate supply so the units can be monitored. I am being charged separetely for heat so that must mean that my heaters switch on during the day. Does that make sense?0 -
My Tariff is advertised as Economy 7 also. I have 3 rates.
So either Economy 7 can cover more than 2 rates or the suppliers literature/information is not quite correct.
Are you still with nPower?
If not, who are you now with?Economy 7 Electricity
Customers with a two rate meter, who use most of their electricity at night to heat their house and/or to produce hot water are likely to benefit from this tariff. Economy 7 tariffs have a higher unit rate for electricity used during the day, but a much cheaper rate for units of electricity used during a 7-hour period at night.
Edit: a couple of months back you said you were on nPower's Super Tariff, as opposed to their E7 tariff
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=25958579&postcount=11
nPowers super tariff is one of the protected tariffs offered by the former monopolised electricity supplier in that area (formally Northern Electric)

Other examples are Warmwise (EDF/East Midlands Electricity), Heatwise (E.On/SEEBoard), Comfort Plus (Scottish Power) and Super Deal (Southern Electric)
You can't change from this to E7 without changing your meter."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Correct The E7 with Boost in the afternoon alternatively known as the Super Tariff.
As said it depends on what you read.
Their website says one thing, my bill says another.
I know what the meter is saying.
Npower as you've probably seen from my previous posts don't know their !!! from their elbow and took some convincing that I don't have a timemachine.
Other suppliers have different terminologies also for what amounts to the same thing.0 -
