Hang on to Santander Shares?

Hi
I've just inherited 100 Banco Santander Shares and the solicitors have asked for instructions on what I want to do - hang on to them or sell. Think current value is about £1000. Never had any shares before - would it be a good idea to hold on to them just now given that I probably don't need access to the £1000 right now? ie are they quite a good investment? If I do that how easy is it to sell shares if I decide to cash them in later?
Thanks
