Hi,
Was wondering if anyone can help me, just tired to switch on my other PC and it loaded to the desk top but then i think it lost power as it just went off and there was no lights on. So i fired it up again and it got as far the little note about press F11 in the top left but it then goes straight to a Sreen asking if i wanted to start in safe mode or safe mode with networking or my last known configuration that last worked and there were other options but i can remember. So i have tried safe mode and it listed some text then froze and the pc turned off then back on again and booted to the same screen. so i tried that last known configuration that worked option this got and this also after a few second switched the Pc off then it comes back on and boots to the same screen.
Is there anything i can do myself to sort this out as i have all my photo's of my children on the hard drive. Or if there's nothing i can do could i take it to the PC shop in town will they be able to extract the info from my C drive i'd rather not do this as i also have bank info on the PC too.
Thank in advance for any help

You can buy a usb caddy for the hard disk, and attach to another pc, or repair the windows installation with a windows disk (not a system restore disk!), if you have one, or download a linux boot disk - usb caddy is the easiest option, especially if you don't have a windows disk.
There are lots of similar threads with more details if you do a search.
Post exactly what comes on screen when it hangs.
PS, you should be backing up those pictures.!!

I know i should be backing up the picture, the irony is i'm getting a external hard drive for Crimbo.
So what do i do with the USB caddy and where do i get one??
Do you know what the problem could be??
And thanks for responding i'm in a right panic and our lass is going to do her nut if i cant get the pictures back.

Difficult to say without more detail of what comes on screen, most likely a window/registry/file corruption of some sort, possibly hardware, but unlikely.
Caddy, most if not all pc shop's sell them, as do thousands of internet sites - stick drive in caddy, plug into usb port of a working pc.
if you have another pc with the same sort of connection pata/sata, you could connect it internally instead.
The usb caddy is just an external hard drive, without the drive.
If the pictures are precious, backup to dvd too.!!

Unfortunatley i only have one monitor so i'll switch this off and switch on the other PC and write down exactly what it says.
Be back in while.

Hi This is the message i'm getting. Any help on solutions would be great. Would the caddy idea sort this out?
Thanks
We apologize for the inconvienience, but windows did not intall start successfully. A recent hardware or sofware change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attemp was iterrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you are'nt sure what caused the problem, choose start windows normally.
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with networking
Safe Mode with comand promt
Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Stasrt windows normally
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlighted to your choice.

What is the exact problem you are having.0

endless reboot loop with no BSOD.
Best advice so far get the hard drive attached to another PC to check for problems.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -
As what Mattjimf said get the drive checked by connecting it externally to another PC (chkdsk and scandisk) if this fails you should be able to access the drive and to copy your data over.0

I think you sould switch over to safe mode. If not then use caddy.0
