connecting my laptop to my tv-how???

Hi

I have a Dell 1750 laptop and want to watch films from the laptop on my Toshiba Regza tv.

There is the option of pc when i scan through the av channels on my tv so I think it's possible. I just don't know how.

There is a cable that came with my laptop that has red, yellow and white cables on the end. I have connected these and the image on my laptop goes larger on the laptop but doesn't show anything in my tv (i have selected pc on the tv)

Am I doing it all wrong?

My tv is hd, but the laptop doesn't have a hdmi port.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

The PC input on your TV will refer to a VGA connection probably. You should have a VGA port on the laptop and a VGA port on the back of the TV. Get yourself a VGA to VGA cable and connect the two.

EDIT: Just found what I think is a picture of your laptop and the VGA port is 4th from the front on the left hand edge (3 rows of small holes). Look for something similar shaped on the back of the TV, then have a hunt on fleabay for a VGA cable.

    boltonangel as anotherbigspender says

You need a VGA male to male cable for the video signal but dont forget the
3.5mm male to male audio cable for sound

I got my VGA cable from ebay at around £13 plus postage then found same in ASDA for £5
The audio cable was around £1.90 off ebay whilst ASDA was £6.00ea !!

Check suppliers prices as they vary a lot

Both VGA and audio cables are around 1.8m in length which should be ok for local use Other lengths cost more and can introduce problems the longer you go

Using the two cables should meet your requirements however there are combined audio and VGA video cables which are £35+ if you want a possible smarter looking installation. The combined cable have same type of connectors but both within a single outer sheath

re your cable that came with the laptop that has red, yellow and white cables

This may possiblly be a video /audio cable for connection to the TV red, yellow and white phono type inputs (not theVGA or PC imputs on tv) So switch your TV to these inputs and it should work

You may have to change your laptop screen properties to view corectly on the the TVscreen Check your TV and Dell handbook for set up advice for HD
