Robotic voice message, is it just me?

I had a call again today some automatic voice repeating a text to voice message. And I can't understand it
. Is it just me or do others not understand these text to voice messages?
Why do companies use them and to a landline as well?

Isn't it when someone accidentally sends a mobile phone text message to a land line that you get those recorded messages? I'm not surprised they are unintelligible if they are full of txt spk when sent!

With my family the answer is similar to whether or not we can understand the chinese lady at our favourite take away; some people seem to be able to understand them ok, and others just simply can't.
