Can anyone tell me what they call the little bags they put in boxes ie electrical items, i would imagine to keep them moist.

    Silica gel. It's a desiccant-keeps them dry.

    What possible reason would lead you to think that keeping an electrical item moist would be a good thing for it.
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.

  • Silica gel is poisonous - I think it's been phased out with a less toxic alternative-but dont quote me on that ;)
    They are actually hydroscopic - in that they absorb moisture - not to keep things moist.

    It is true that moisture does help reduce static - but for general day to day use of domestic or general office equipment I wouldn't have thought that static would be that much of an issue. (Computer server rooms or large print rooms have they're humidity levels controlled to reduce static).
