fraudulent transactions - how to get money back

Hello fellow moneysavers,

i used my credit card to pay (around £130) for cleaning services of my house. this was done on mbna mastercard (if it is relevant). this happened last august.

the service company charged me the total amount. the next month they charged me £115 twice (again - without any reason). i noticed this in november and contacted them. they said it was mistake and would send a cheque. but this has not happened. i have not been able to contact them since last 2-3 months.

i had contacted my credit card company (since there were other fraud transactions as well) to ask upto when i could claim money since the company was not sending it. they told me anything since last february. when i contacted them again in feb (or maybe march) they said i was told that i should have contacted them within 120 days of the transaction.

so that £230 fraud that i cannot get back.

needless to say, i've stopped using the card.

i'm just wondering if there is a way to get the money back.

any help will be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Shameless self promotion: thank me if you find this useful!!

Did you speak to the disputes team or the fraud team ?

Call through to the disputes team they are known as BECS and see what the mcard regulations state regarding these unrecognised transactions. They will not say these are fraud as you gave them your details previously and they have just charged you again.

You do not seem to have been very proactive in the six months following the over charging.

If you really can't get the money back from your card issuer, I think your only option is go to small claims court. Unfortunately, it sounds like the company in question has gone out of business, so I'm not sure how much joy you'd have with recouping your losses, assuming you won your case.
